Victor Hugo Thesis

Victor Hugo had a vision and plan for France that differed from Napoleon III, which would have changed history, but unfortunately he spoke out against Napoleon and wound up in exile unable to influence France at all. His romantic view of the world led him to over harshly slander Napoleon, who admittedly should have followed Hugo’s advice to wage peace not war.

  1. You should specify what kind of vision Hugo had for France. You also need a counter argument to set up the two sides of the argument because right now, it doesn't sound like there is much of an argument. It is widely known that Hugo believed in Republicanism and Romanticism and he was exiled because he spoke out against Napoleon III.

Also, for clarification, who was it that admitted that Napoleon III should have followed Hugo's advice? Napoleon himself or historians etc?

  2. I really enjoy your views on Victor Hugo's romantic view of the world, and how that affected France politically. However, I think that your thesis sounds a lot like plot summary- I would suggest focusing more on why Victor Hugo should have followed Napoleon's advice, something that is a debatable issue. Here it seems that you are merely stating a point, but a very interesting one.
